Polly's Cove Hiking Trail and Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

Updated: Aug 31, 2019

Peggy's Cove

I have always wanted to visit Peggy's Cove so May and I went on a road trip to see the lighthouse. It was a sunny, a little chilly but still a beautiful day.

Polly's Cove

We decided to go for a hike first in Polly's Cove Hiking trail. It is a loop trail located near Peggy's Cove. There is a small parking lot by the side of the road that can fit maybe 3-4 cars only.

At that time, we did not see anyone else in the trail. The trail has some pretty big but smooth rocks so we were very careful not to trip or fall. We were wearing boots that day because it was pretty cold and very windy.

From the picture to the right, you can see Peggy's Cove Lighthouse from there. You can also just sit down, relax and just feel the breeze from the ocean.

It is a scenic trail where you can take a lot of "Instagram worthy" photos. You can also just shout all your problems to the ocean or curse your enemies and ex-boyfriends, whichever order you want (lol).

As I have mentioned, there are a lot of big but smooth rocks in the trail. You also need to be careful not to go to the edge as there are no barriers.

There are also small but deep gaps between the rocks so careful with your keys, cameras, phones or anything that you may accidentally drop between those gaps. It will be very difficult to get those.

After hiking, we stopped by the Swissair Flight 111 Memorial Site to pay our respects. On September 2, 1998, Swissair Flight 111 crashed into the Atlantic Ocean at the entrance to St. Margaret's Bay. All people on board died that tragic day.

At the Swissair memorial site, there is a short walking trail that leads to a monument in memory of the people who lost their lives.

Peggy's Cove Lighthouse

We then visited the lighthouse. Peggy's Point Lighthouse is one of Nova Scotia's most well-known lighthouses. It is an active lighthouse and definitely an iconic Canadian image. It is one of the busiest tourist attractions in the province. You can watch the waves, explore around the rocks and take amazing photos. Just don't go to the black rocks as you are just a few feet away from drowning in the Atlantic Ocean.

White Sails Bakery & Deli

On our way home, we stopped by a bakery. They have really good burgers and sandwiches. They have tables and chairs outside where you can sit and enjoy your food while overlooking St. Margaret's Bay.
